When we introduced MakerRepo and the idea of manufacturing as code, we wanted a platform where CAD could be treated like software: version control, CI, artifacts in the browser, and workflows such as Generators and Releases that feel familiar if you already ship products on GitHub.

We have been in public beta while we hardened the platform and learned from real projects. Today we are taking the next step: MakerRepo is no longer in beta. It is no longer a pet product. We are building a serious business we mean to run for the long term. Introducing paid plans lets us keep investing in the product while keeping public, open work accessible to everyone.

We have said this many times: we love open-source projects and the people who maintain them. We want MakerRepo.com to stay a natural home for sharing designs, collaborating, and discovering work from the community. If you keep your repositories public, you can still use MakerRepo at no charge under limits meant for normal day-to-day use. Here is a screenshot of the pricing page:

We are building an ecosystem, not just shipping a product

Subscription revenue is only one way for us to sustain the business. We are also thinking longer term about how popular open-source authors and projects fit into the ecosystem, including business models where CAD model authors could earn from their work. As long as we can give open-source authors reasons to keep their projects open and accessible to everyone, we believe the ecosystem can grow and thrive.

Early MakerRepo, early supporter pricing

For now, we offer special pricing for early adopters and open-source maintainers. At about $9.99 per month when billed annually, that is an approachable price for a niche platform like MakerRepo. But here is the thing: MakerRepo is still in its early days. We will keep shipping features and improvements, and we expect list prices to rise as the product delivers more value. If you subscribe during this early phase, you get future additions under your plan at the rate you signed up for, so early paid customers benefit from more capability without paying tomorrow’s higher sticker price. We offer a 30-day free trial so you can try the platform and see whether it is a good fit. If you are curious about the product, we recommend trying it for free first.

What’s next

MakerRepo is out of beta and we now have paid plans, so we will certainly keep working hard to ship more features and improvements. Many obvious capabilities, such as fork and pull request workflows, are already on our roadmap. The current web-based generator runs a bit slowly; we plan to improve performance over time. We are still weighing priorities. We care a lot about feedback from users. If you have suggestions, please contact us.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on MakerRepo.com.
